How I Manage a Fit & Healthy Lifestyle with a Crazy Schedule
"You don't find the time, you make the time."
Has anyone else heard this cliche quote when it comes to getting things done? Well, I hate to break it to ya, but it couldn't be more true. I have learned that making time for the things we find important is the key to creating habits and therefore those things become the sh** we get done!
How do you balance your busy schedule and stay motivated?
This is one of my most frequently asked questions. And I typically come back with the same response: I am conditioned to do many things now that I don't even question it. I would go insane if I didn't make time to workout - it is my release. I would feel like crap if I was constantly eating crap. I would also be exhausted if I ate whatever I wanted because I need food to fuel my body to keep my energized as I am constantly on the go.
Between: my job, working out, making time for my family, my boyfriend and friends, eating *mostly* healthy, coaching basketball, commuting to see the bf, commuting to SoulCycle, keeping up with my instagram and still trying to have me time that doesn't require a workout or pants for that matter -- I have a lot going on. But, don't we all? I don't use anything as my excuse because all of the craziness listed above is what I love. They are things that are important to me and while it can all get exhausting at times it is all I know. Soooo with that being said I am going to share a few of my top tips for you to get in your workouts and stay on track with your diet even when you have a ton on your plate!
1. Make a Schedule
Lay out your week. When is your rest day(s) and what workouts are you going to do each day. STICK TO IT!
2. Plan ALL your meals
I mean it! Plan out your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for each day. Prepping the food or not. Tracking macros or not. Plan when you are going to have your "cheats/treats" so you can plan around it. This way you have a well thought out plan and most importantly STICK TO IT! *PS sometimes life happens and you can't stick to it perfectly, DAS OKAY!
3. Put on the gym clothes ASAP
This is something that has always worked for me, so I don't curl up in my bed after work and skip the workout. If you workout in the morning lay out your clothes the night before, on the floor, in the bathroom sink, I don't care - make it so when you get up in the morning those clothes will be staring at you to put them on. For me: as SOON as I get home from work I change into my workout gear, sneakers included so I have no option but to go workout!
4. Use a Planner
While it is similar to making a workout schedule, a planner can help with the OTHER bazillion things you have going on. Do you have errands to run, goals to reach, or top priorities? My PassionPlanner has helped me a lot with being more organized week to week. Who do you need to make time for that week, when are you seeing them, what are you doing? A planner helps me make sure I get things done and when I have time to do so!
5. Stay Inspired
My Instagram alone helps keep me motivated when it comes to working out. I always wonder how I would feel if I didn't get in a workout and normally that is enough for me to get off my butt and go do it. Find the people who motivate and inspire you and read what they have to say -- chances are: you are not much different and you can go kick ass just like them!
6. Embrace it!
I don't have to be a basketball coach. I want to be. I don't have to drive an 45 min-1 hours to SoulCycle, I want to. I don't have to keep up with my instagram and emails. I like to. I don't have to eat healthy every day. It makes me happier. The list goes on and on. I make time for my boyfriend, family and friends because without them life would suck. As someone who has always been pretty pessimistic - I have realized that being happy about where I am at and all the things I am able to do and people I get to see is pretty damn cool. I embrace the list of places to go and people to see even if it is: boom, boom, boom in a row.
Can I be lazy from time to time? Umm, YES! I love laying in bed, cuddling with Bella and rewatching tv shows I've seen too many times to count (or binge watching This is Us to catch up in 3 days #noregrets). Sometimes I may be tired or complain about my busy schedule but when I think about my life - it would be pretty boring if I only had to worry/do about half of the things that I normally do.
You don't have to have it figured all out but you DO have to start somewhere. Figure out what is important to you AND makes you happy. Once you do - prioritize them and make it all happen.
